Fields of The World: Global Data (2nd Edition)
Machine-learning-predicted field boundaries, one file per year, 2017–2025. An unofficial preview from the publisher.
What this is
The 2nd Edition of Fields of The World's Global Data: machine-learning-predicted field boundaries from satellite imagery, one file per year from 2017 to 2025, between about 47° south and 66° north. The 2nd Edition layers are the publisher's per-year PMTiles files on Source Cooperative. Each year is an independent prediction. UFFDA points its map at these files, at https://data.source.coop/ftw/global-data-2e/; the publisher's metadata is at github.com/fieldsoftheworld/ftw-global-data-catalog.
Why we surface it
It adds earlier years, so you can look at a place's fields in 2017 or 2021, not just 2024 and 2025.
What you can do with it
Shown for commercial use. Personal, research, and nonprofit use is often more permissive — switch the verdict lens on the catalog.
- Internal / individual use
- Free to use for any purpose, including commercial and AI training. Nothing's triggered until you share it.
- Redistribute the data
- Fine to use and redistribute, including commercially. One string attached: credit the original source wherever it shows up.
- Republish a derivative
- Build on it and republish freely, commercial or not. You must credit the original source in what you ship.
- Build into a private product
- Fine to build into a closed or commercial product. Attribution is still owed wherever the data is actually exposed to users.
This decoder is a starting point, not legal advice. For commercial deployment, run the actual license terms past someone who reads them for a living.
