What this is

FAOSTAT covers production, yield, trade, food supply, emissions, and land use at the national level for 245 countries from 1961 to present. Available via REST API and bulk download. License note: FAOSTAT is CC-BY 4.0, but the FAO corporate license includes a restriction against using FAO data in a way that implies FAO endorsement of a product or service — i.e., do not use FAOSTAT data in commercial promotional materials in a manner that suggests FAO backs your product. Attribution is required; commercial use is otherwise permitted. This is a narrower restriction than a full NC clause, but it is worth noting if the integration is commercial.

Why we surface it

NASS answers US crop statistics. FAOSTAT answers everywhere else. Grounding field-level signals in national production context requires a dataset that operates at the same geographic scope.
