Daily temperature, precipitation, solar radiation, and soil-temp proxy on a 0.5° grid, globally, 1981→present. The first weather layer in UFFDA that works the same in Iowa, Brazil, or Punjab.

What this is

NASA POWER (Prediction Of Worldwide Energy Resources) bundles MERRA-2 reanalysis with satellite-derived surface flux estimates into a free public agroclimatology API. UFFDA queries the daily point endpoint for a per-field — or per-map-center — series of max/min/avg 2m air temperature, corrected precipitation, all-sky shortwave solar at the surface, and skin temperature as a 2m-soil-temp proxy. The series defaults to the last 14 days, with growing-season-aware extensions on the way. No API key. Results are snapped to NASA POWER's native 0.5° grid and cached in Supabase, so the second click on any field in the same 0.5° cell is instant.

Why we surface it

Up to now every UFFDA layer has been CONUS-only. NASA POWER is the first one that works the same for a field in Iowa, a field in Brazil, and a field in Punjab — a free, no-auth, public-domain way to ground every click in real recent weather context. It also unblocks weather-anchored questions (frost risk, dry spell length, accumulated GDD) that are a much bigger story than any single forecast model.
